Stanford Launches National Search for Next Director of Athletics

Stanford University President Jon Levin announced today the launch of a national search for the next Jaquish and Kenninger Director of Athletics, including the formation of a search committee and the selection of Elevate Talent as the search firm to assist with the process.

Stanford Athletics Chief Operating Officer Alden Mitchell has been asked to serve as Interim Athletics Director, effective immediately, until a permanent hire is made.

• Jay Mitchell (Co-Chair), Stanford Faculty Athletics Representative and Professor of Law, Emeritus

• Asher Hong, Men’s Gymnastics Student-Athlete
• Condoleezza Rice, Tad & Dianne Taube Director of the Hoover Institution
• Jesse Rogers, Stanford Alumnus, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Altamont Capital Partners, Former Stanford Athletics Board and DAPER Investment Fund Member
• Tara VanDerveer, Former Stanford Head Women’s Basketball Coach
• Howard Wolf, Vice President for Alumni Affairs and President of the Stanford Alumni Association

Though a definitive timeline for the search process has not been established, a selection for the position is anticipated this summer. The new director will succeed Bernard Muir, who is stepping down after nearly 13 years as Stanford’s athletic director.
