Challenge
Transforming Fenway Park into a hockey spectacle presented several design and operational challenges. The team needed to merge hockey with baseball seamlessly, highlight Fenway’s most recognizable feature—the Green Monster—and create functional, team-centric elements such as built dugouts and an ice diamond rink in the outfield. The goal was to deliver a visually striking and operationally efficient environment that enhanced the fan experience while respecting the historic venue.
Solution
The design system successfully integrated Fenway Park’s iconic features, including a functional replica of the Green Monster on the ice, team-centric dugouts, and an ice diamond rink layout. By merging hockey with baseball aesthetics, the décor created an immersive and memorable experience for fans. The event culminated with the Boston Bruins defeating the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1, further cementing the Winter Classic as a landmark spectacle in both hockey and venue design.
