Introduction
Challenge
We were asked by the England & Wales Cricket Board to find a new Chief Financial Officer who will deliver an innovative, forward-thinking business infrastructure internally at the ECB and across the cricket network. The new CFO will join at a time of great opportunity, with an established new leadership team in post for over 12 months and six new Non-Executive Directors appointed to the Board at the beginning of 2023. The person will play a key role in developing and overseeing the ECB's financial health, supporting commercial growth, and shaping the organisation’s strategic direction.
Solution
The ECB was looking for someone to drive change proactively, creating a positive, equitable environment where the whole team could excel. They needed someone with strong commercial acumen and the ability to drive efficiency and quality. Overarching this, there was a strong need to highlight inspirational leadership qualities. A key part of the search was to find candidates who were not only equipped with the experience, innovation, and tenacity to achieve the ECB objectives, but who lived the brand values, who understood the context of the ECB in the domestic sports landscape, and who had experience of working with complex stakeholder groups to navigate the national and international cricket context.
